The Aviation Maintenance Technology program prepares you for employment as an Airframe and/or Power Plant mechanic through Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved classroom instruction and practical shop experience. You’ll build the technical knowledge and hands-on ability needed to service aircraft structures, electrical systems, hydraulics and engines while preparing for FAA certification exams.
You will learn how to:
- Inspect, repair and maintain aircraft systems and components
- Understand aviation regulations, publications and maintenance records
- Apply aviation math, physics and technical mechanics
- Work with aircraft electrical systems
- Perform sheet metal structure repair and fabrication
- Service wood, non-metallic and fabric aircraft structures
- Learn aircraft finishes, painting, assembly and rigging
- Understand hydraulic and pneumatic power systems
- Work with landing gear, fuel, fire protection and cabin atmosphere control systems
- Diagnose and maintain communication, navigation and warning systems
- Learn reciprocating and turbine engine systems
- Perform power plant maintenance, troubleshooting and overhaul procedures
- Prepare for FAA General, Airframe and Power Plant licensure exams
